Welcome to Narcotics Anonymous
The Activities Subcommittee plans and coordinates events that promote unity, fellowship, and fun within the NA community. These events help strengthen our sense of belonging and support personal recovery while ensuring that NA remains attractive to newcomers and long-time members alike.
Recovery is more than just attending meetings—it’s about learning to live a clean, meaningful, and enjoyable life. Activities:
Build unity among members
Provide safe, recovery-oriented social opportunities
Encourage participation and connection
Help create a welcoming environment for newcomers
These events help carry our message by demonstrating that recovery is joyful and fulfilling.
Events vary by area, but common activities include:
Dances
Picnics and barbecues
Holiday events
Speaker jams
Game nights
Campouts
Celebrations of clean-time anniversaries
Workshops and unity days
All events are held in a manner consistent with NA’s Twelve Traditions.
Most NA activities are open to all members of Narcotics Anonymous. Some events may also allow supportive friends and family, depending on the nature and purpose of the activity. If an event is NA-members-only, it will be clearly stated in the event description.
Funding may come from:
Group contributions to the Area Service Committee
Event admissions (if applicable)
Fundraisers
Donations from NA members (not from outside sources)
In keeping with NA's traditions, the committee avoids outside contributions and remains fully self-supporting.
Activities are not held for profit.
Any funds left over after an event go directly back to the Area Service Committee to support the wider work of NA.
The purpose of activities is unity, not financial gain.
Any NA member with a desire to serve is welcome. Roles may include:
Chairperson
Vice Chair
Treasurer
Secretary
Event coordinators
Set-up/clean-up crews
Volunteers for decorations, food service, or ticketing
Many roles require only a willingness to help and a desire to practice spiritual principles.
Certain positions—such as chairperson, treasurer, or event coordinator—may require a specific amount of clean time for accountability and stability.
General volunteers typically have no clean-time requirement beyond a desire to stay clean and give back.
You can get involved by:
Attending the monthly Activities Subcommittee meeting
Volunteering for event planning
Helping with set-up or clean-up
Bringing ideas for new events
Taking on a service commitment
Activities service is a great way to build connections, learn teamwork, and deepen your recovery.
The subcommittee follows:
NA’s Twelve Traditions
NA’s Twelve Concepts for Service
Guidelines approved by the Area Service Committee
Financial accountability and transparency
Respect for NA unity, anonymity, and members’ well-being
Events must align with NA’s spiritual purpose and avoid outside affiliation, endorsement, or controversy.
Yes. Facilities such as community centres, parks, banquet halls, or church basements are often used.
However, NA does not:
Accept discounts that violate self-support
Promote or endorse the facility
Partner with businesses in a way that suggests affiliation
Choosing a respectful, neutral environment is key.
Activities help remind us that recovery is more than abstinence—it is a new way of life. Through unity-building events, members learn to:
Have fun clean
Build healthy relationships
Support each other
Grow together in fellowship
Stay connected to the NA community
The Activities Subcommittee strengthens the heart of our fellowship by creating safe spaces for joy, unity, and celebration.
